By Road
Take the N4 from Pretoria or the N12 from Johannesburg toward Witbank (eMalahleni). From there, travel via Belfast, Dullstroom, Lydenburg (Mashishing), Ohrigstad, and through the Strijdom Tunnel to reach Hoedspruit.
Once in Hoedspruit, go through the town and cross the railway bridge. At the second four-way stop, turn left onto the R40 heading toward Phalaborwa. After 16 km, you’ll see the Olifants West Gate sign on your left. The gate is on your right.
After paying the conservation levy at the gate (R115 per vehicle and R285 per person), the guard will direct you toward Zazu Private Bush Lodge. Turn immediately left onto Maroela Laan and follow the gravel road alongside the fence for about 800 meters. It will then turn right — follow this road for approximately 5 km until you see the sign for Zazu Private Bush Lodge on your left. Turn in and follow the track another 800 meters to reach the lodge.
A direct drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria takes around 5 hours. If you choose to follow the scenic Panorama Route via Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes, expect the journey to take closer to 8 hours. Daily scheduled flights operate from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport, just 7 km from town. The flight from Johannesburg takes under an hour. Transfers to and from the lodge can be arranged upon request – just let us know your arrival details.

Transfer services operate between OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) and the Olifants West Gate. Operators may change seasonally, so please contact us for the most up-to-date information. We’re happy to assist with bookings.
